MARTIN GRANT – INTERVIEW

Rue Charlot, Paris III. On the third floor of an old Haussmannian apartment, Martin Grant presents his FW1415 collection in a vast sunny room. The wood floor creaks while I walk slowly to observe each of the garments. I go through micro-quilted silk satin gown, wool-angora knits, alpaca coats and a lot more treasures. Though, I first notice the bold flashy pink. The killer shade of the collection. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOh, everyone got to love Martin Grant. Besides being sweet and enthusiastic, Martin is one prodigious designer. Around pastel coloured macaroons, he tells me the story of his new collection. His Fall/Winter 2014 collection is inspired by a woman’s wardrobe. So, who is the Martin Grant’s woman? “My designs represent thousands of women, not just one woman. I create different silhouettes, I want every woman to wear my dresses”, he affirms, “but if I had to design for one type of woman, it would be for the Parisienne because she knows how to be chic, better than anyone”. It is official, Grant is the perfect man. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Martin Grant describes it as a sort of European city that got its own style. “Fashion in Melbourne is always very fresh and new, so my Australian heritage probably influence my designs, then Paris has always been the perfect place to show that certain style”, he says. Grant emphasizes the modern woman through this collection, presenting different shapes and materials, “so she would be able to mix designs and style her total look”. It is, again, all about a feminine wardrobe. As we can notice, the designer chose fuschia to be the stand-out colour of the season. And the reason is because pink is its favourite colour. He used neutral hues for the rest of the collection in order to showcase the brightness and femininity of the flashy shade. Moreover, nothing better than Christian Louboutin heels, (specially designed for the collection), to complete the look. The two designers have been working together for years, let’s admit that it is one perfect collaboration. Martin describes this collection in three words, “sophisticated, cool and chic”.
